After winning a GPHG prize and consistently having their watches nominated for this prestigious award, you better believe that the independent brand, MING, is a mainstay of the industry. For their first watch of 2021, they are unveiling a new variant of the 27 series with yet another ultra-thin beauty, the 27.02.
At 6.9mm, the 27 series watches were already thin enough but somehow it would seem that MING was able to find just that little bit more room within the case. The new MING 27.02 not only comes with a gorgeous Clous-de-Paris guilloché ring around the periphery but also a sapphire dial with a fume style gradient growing inky black towards the centre. Through this combination, it gives the watch a nice mirror black finish and reveals the guilloché ring towards the outer ring of the dial. And as the indices are laser etched it appears to float over this Clous-de-Paris pattern.
It is astounding that they have managed to fit so much more into the same case size. And of course, to get this case thickness, MING decided to use a manual winding movement, the ETA Peseux 7001. However, if you flip the watch and peer through the caseback, you won’t be able to recognise the movement at all. This is because the movement has been heavily reworked to MING specifications by Manufacture Schwarz-Etienne. This MING 7001.M1 modified movement offers open-worked bridges which reveal the intricate gear train within and the bridges have also been coated in black chrome.
If you are a current MING customer, you would have gotten access to the first batch of MING 27.02 watches. Unsurprisingly, this batch has already sold out. The next batch of 75 watches will be available today 15th January 2021 at 9 PM (Kuala Lumpur time) but if you need more time to decide the third batch of 75 watches will be available for order 11 AM, 22 January in Kuala Lumpur. The price of the watch is CHF 4,950.
