For their latest collection, they may have decided to go with the name Tudor Royal which was born in the 1950s but a quick look at the 41mm model will immediately tell you that the watch was inspired by the Tudor Oyster Prince Date-Day. Either way, the Tudor Royal as it is now called, represents a sporty-chic addition to the current Tudor line-up and is also the most affordable entry point into the brand.
The most noticeable characteristic of the Tudor Royal comes in the form of the notched bezel with an alternating surface of polished and cut grooves. And although the Royal collection is available in 41, 38, 34 and 28mm case diameters, the date-day complication will only be available with the 41mm version. The others will only offer a date function. As for the case, it is made with 316L stainless steel and it is paired with an elegant five-link integrated bracelet in the same material. There will also be variants with a steel and gold combination.
The more interesting bit is the fact that the recommended retail price for the Tudor Royal will be CHF 2,200 for the 41mm, date-day version. But for this price, don’t expect to be getting any in-house Tudor movements. Instead, like the Black Bay 41 / 36 the Tudor Royal will be powered by ETA. Tudor does mention that the movement “is finely decorated and regulated according to the best chronometric standards of the watchmaking industry” which suggests that they are modified slightly.
Just as a comparison, the Black Bay 41 / 36 has a retail price of CHF 2,800 making the Tudor Royal quite an attractive proposition for those looking for a way into the Tudor universe. The best part about this is that each watch will also enjoy the same five-year warranty that Tudor offers on every watch sold after the 1st of January 2020. Value-driven indeed.
The Tudor Royal collection will come in four different sizes and nine different dial variations starting from CHF 2,100.
